My Rolex used to wind buttery smooth but now sounds extremely grainy and crunchy when winding. Not only that but every 3 or 4 turns it feels as if there is resistance that tries to stop the winding but is over come with force.

The grittiness after a full wind is normal as it’s the clutch slipping as others have pointed out.
