Open-6 date wheels were used on many Rolex models until at least the late '80s. (Even my '88 DJ has one.) I'd assume the 16800 you're looking at has a service date wheel, which might not be a deal-breaker for me, although I fully understand why you'd want one. I would like to get an older Rolex Date that has the "open" style "6" and "9" in the date window. Does anyone know when Rolex stopped using this style of date number font? Thanks in advance for any help.

You may come across two other types which would have been fitted at service.Here is the general progression of the date wheels based on year and distinguishing characteristics: Early 1960’s to Middle 1960’s: round 3, closed 6 & 9, and flat 7; Middle 1960’s to Late 1960’s: round 3, closed 6 & 9, and hooked 7; Early/Mid 1970’s: flat 3 and open 6 & 9; Mid/Late 1970’s to Early 1980’s: round 3, open 6 & 9 . Here, the familiar magnifier converts it into a feature, highlighting the open 6 and 9 numerals whenever they cycle through. When it was released, the Caliber 5035 inside the Rolex Oysterquartz was designed to be the finest quartz movement to date, and it has held up pretty well in the years since. Then, take your time to find period correct date wheel which you can fit at service or at your convenience. I can understand you wanting the open six and nine to complete the watch’s original look. I agree the bezel look okay.
