I was offer the Explorer II Polar new one last year , and was amaze how good looking is this watch. It was not on my radar but I bought it and never look back. Living in Alaska is the perfect watch for the winter. Starting with the black dial, what jumps out is that the hour, minute, and 24-hour hands are now all white gold. On the Polar version, you'll notice that the hands appear less glossy. Both new versions have a small crown between "Swiss" and "Made" at the 6 .
The Explorer II 216570 has always been a watch I've thought really stood out, without being as ubiquitous as a Sub or GMT-II. I visited quite a few AD's until I was able to find it in polar, it seemed like the only ones left were with the black dial.

Last year I was able to pick up a green bezel Sub and have been patiently waiting for the explorer 2. 9 out of 10 for form, 6.5 out of 10 for function. The movement in this watch is the in-house Rolex calibre 3185. The main talking point on this movement would have to be the independently jumping hour hand, making this a “true” GMT .
I’m lucky enough to be in the position where I am able to add a Rolex to my collection, and have narrowed it down to the explorer and explorer 2 polar. I’ve tried both on and love them, but the explorer 2 is in the lead. I’ve only been able to try on the new 42mm version.
