Rolex Submariner Big Crown Explorer Dial Reference 5510 Australian Military. This Rolex Submariner Reference 5510 is a very cool and special timepiece with very interesting provenance. The watch is a very rare example issued to the Australian military. While it features the 3-6-9 layout that would go on to be called the Explorer dial, only some feature a line of text above six o'clock reading "Explorer." The rest, and indeed the majority, say "Precision." The example we see here is one of the former, and it also features a long hour hand. The very notion of a black-dialed stainless steel watch with a rotating timing bezel, luminous hands, and a comfortable bracelet was broadly popularized by the Submariner. Despite all of that though, the Submariner is an often-misunderstood watch.
